New Swag

Posted in Uncategorized on May 14, 2009 by neilmckinney

Ok, so this is a review of some new swag that I picked up recently.  I’m totally excited since this is actually my first real purchase in the t-shirt community. To give you some of my background I will tell you that I have been making shirts for my day job at Premier Creative for the last 2.5 years.  I that time, I’ve become very familiar with a lot of the aspects that encompass the fine art of designing for the screen printing process.

From creation to separation, especially separations, t-shirts can be something of a fine art in itself.

It’s a wonderful thing to see successful clothing companies such as The Black Axe and Dekay Clothing offer quality products for such a nice price.

I see my own work come and go on a daily basis but rarely get the time to look at others work and am finally excited to peek into another product.

I will start from the beginning!

I will have to give credit to one of my favorite addictions.  Checking it on a daily basis, Emptees is a social networking community of t-shirt apparel designers and fans alike.  It is this  community of talented designers that allowed me to  “get up off that wallet” and make a purchase off the world wide web.  After joining Emptees, I began to lurk the forums and started the process of “loving” t-shirts on a daily basis.  Some designers really stood out!  One that caught my attention was that of Brandon Heart.  His work is nothing short of amazing!  Dekay Clothing purchased one of his designs and rightly so, hes fucking talented.   Here are some pictures of a new design the he did for Dekays 2009 clothing line.

I was so thrilled to see this in person.  For me it’s like looking into the fine art of brilliant t-shirt separation.  I don’t know if Brandon set up the separations for this, but if he did.. I will tip my hat!  There are a few stunning aspects to this shirt.  First off this is a large print measuring close to 21″ x 17″  approximately… this is not a cheaply made  shirt 😀  Second,  is the art of separation.  It appears to have a discharge under base, very cool due to the fact that most the screen printing shops wont even consider this due to the fact that you don’t always get the effect that you want with every batch of shirts you screen print.  Third, the shirt is on american apparel.  I love the feel of this brand and it fits like a glove.  As I run my hands over this shirt the print is supprisingly smooth (thank you discharge underbase).  The seperations were set up so nicely that you get more color value due to the selective location of the underbase.  Reds are darker when they are not on underbase and brighter when they are.  This contiues through out the design.  Take a peek!

This is a prime example below of creating color value with underbase and non underbase.  More Pictures:
